NBR Chairman Abu Hena Mohammad Rahmatul Munim inaugurated the EFD on August 25, 2019 to ensure transparency and accountability in VAT collection.
NBR member (VAT implementation and IT) Abdul Mannan Sikder said that due to lack of publicity, people are not going to be interested in Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) lottery.
He said that although 101 people from NBR were given prizes for EFD invoices, the desired response has not been forthcoming so far. This is because of the lack of awareness among the people. Many people drop VAT invoices or do not participate in the results because they do not know the matter. That is why we are emphasizing on publicity.
Abdul Mannan said increasing the use of EFD invoices is a big challenge. Even if the EFD invoice is not taken, the buyer has to pay VAT. Because now VAT is included in the price of the product. So even if no one takes the invoice, VAT has to be paid.
Noting that VAT collection has not increased as expected after the installation of EFD machines, the NBR member said there was a lack of awareness among traders and buyers about whether to accept invoices or not. However, our automated system is running.
"We have a team at each Commissionerate to monitor the use of EFD invoices and VAT collection," he said. They are monitoring the matter. Hopefully results will be available in the future.
EFD is a modern accounting tool. This is an improved version of the Electronic Cash Register (ECR). NBR is able to know the actual transaction or sales information of the organization through this device. How much of this will be known as VAT. As a result, VAT evasion will stop and collection will increase. The EFD machine will be connected to the NBR's server through software to monitor the daily transaction information of the business. The server has already been set up for this purpose.
The first lottery draw of EFD invoice was held on 5th February. As of March, this year, NBR has installed EFDs in 4,341 businesses.
